Pioneer Activity Program
Select activities for your students to learn what life was really like in the 1800s.
Choices include: blacksmithing, building, peg doll making, Morse code, school
life, pioneer games, and rope making.
Pioneer Home Life
A 3 hour hands-on program of traditional chores including laundry, domestic
duties, and cooking. Students make their own lunch of stew, damper, butter,
and cordial, and experience Pioneer home life.
Aboriginal Culture
Traditional Aboriginal ways taught by a local Aboriginal Elder who
weaves stories about life in pre-European times. He uses Scar, Canoe and Ring
trees and other artefacts to explain aspects of hunter-gatherer culture.
Study Tours
A fun and educational tour of the Pioneer Settlement. Students will be encouraged
to participate in a dramatisation of life in the days of Australia's pioneers.
Self-Guided Trails
A range of trails are available which encourage students to explore the Pioneer
Settlement discovering the mysteries of Pioneer days.
Creative Hands & Minds
With a provided script (or one of their own), students can dress in costume,
create and then perform their own Mallee Pioneer drama.
