The Pioneer Settlement has a large quantity of agricultural machinery and technology which we use in exhibitions around the site explaining the development and changing nature of agriculture in the Mallee.
Current exhibitions look at clearing the Mallee and the development of technology to do so efficiently; sewing and harvesting that cleared land and finally, in a time when draft animals were key to successful agriculture, how the feed for those animals was grown, harvested and stored.
Exhibitions currently being developed will examine the changing technology which developed as farmers grew more familiar with the problems, and opportunities of farming the Mallee.
Nor is the Murray River neglected. Currently being developed is an exhibition looking at the river during the early days of navigation. This will be installed aboard the P.S. Gem. Another will look at the timber industry that developed where the Murray met the Mallee.
