Restored and maintained by the Settlement's Technical Curator, most of
our tractor collection is driveable and many are driven by volunteers at the
Settlement on an almost daily basis.
The Pioneer Settlement has an extensive and ongoing program of conservation
and, where necessary, restoration for all of its objects. The work is always
undertaken in the spirit of the Burra Charter - the guiding document for
producing professional restoration of artefacts which can be reversed to allow
for return to their original state.
The result is that we have many operating objects which can be used to
demonstrate the way in which life was lived in the past. Many of these are still
regularly 'activated', while others, such as our 1908 Saunderson Model A are
only brought out for special activation days.
