By Public Transport

Swan Hill is well-connected, making it easy to visit the Pioneer Settlement without a car.  If traveling in Victoria plan your trip using Public Transport Victoria's Journey Planner.

  • Train
     V/Line trains run regularly from Melbourne (Southern Cross Station) to Swan Hill, taking around 4.5 - 5 hours. From Swan Hill Railway Station, it’s just a 10-minute walk or a short taxi ride to the Settlement. Check timetables and book tickets at V/Line.
  • Bus/Coach
     V/Line coaches operate from regional centers including Bendigo and Mildura. Check timetables and book tickets at V/Line.
  • Accessibility
     Swan Hill Railway Station is wheelchair accessible, and many V/Line services offer mobility assistance. Contact V/Line in advance if you need support.

By Car

Driving offers flexibility and a chance to enjoy the Murray River region.

  • From Melbourne
     ~340 km north via Calder Highway (M79/A79), about 4 hours.
  • From Mildura
    ~220 km, 2.5 hours via Murray Valley Highway (B400).
  • From Bendigo
    ~150 km, 2 hours via Loddon Valley Highway (B260) and Murray Valley Highway (B400).

Use a GPS or Google Maps for real-time directions. The Pioneer Settlement is clearly signposted as you approach Swan Hill.

Parking

  • Free on-site parking
     Enjoy free parking with plenty of spaces available for cars, buses, and caravans.
  • Accessible parking
     Designated bays are located near the entrance.      A valid disability parking permit must be displayed.
  • EV charging
     Limited charging stations are available near the Swan Hill Train Station (View Map).
  • Buses and coaches
     A convenient drop-off zone is located at the entrance, with parking for larger vehicles nearby. 

By Bicycle or Walking

Enjoy Swan Hill’s flat terrain and river views! The Settlement sits right on the banks of the Little Murray River, close to Riverside Park.

Bike racks are located near the entrance.
