No pet policy

Service Dog

We love animals and understand that pets are cherished members of many families. However, to ensure the safety and comfort of all our visitors and the animals in our care, including our resident horses, we have a no-pet policy on site.

Thank you for your understanding and help in keeping our space safe and enjoyable for all.

Why we have a no-pet policy

The Pioneer Settlement has several horses that help bring our historic village to life. These animals can be sensitive to new pets. This might lead to stress or unexpected behaviour. Such reactions could affect their well-being and the safety of our visitors.

To keep our horses and your pets safe, please do not bring pets onto the Pioneer Settlement grounds.

Guide and assistance animals are welcome

We are committed to ensuring accessibility for all visitors. Guide dogs, service dogs, and other registered assistance animals are welcome at the Pioneer Settlement.

These animals are welcome across the site, including all accessible areas. They must be easily identifiable, like wearing a harness or vest, and have the proper documentation.

If you are visiting with an assistance animal, please feel free to call us in advance on 1800 981 911 or email pioneersettlement@swanhill.vic.gov.au so we can ensure your visit is as smooth as possible.

Planning your visit

We know it can be hard to leave your furry friends at home, and we are grateful for your understanding of our policy.

If you are traveling to Swan Hill and need pet-friendly accommodations or local pet-sitting services, call the Swan Hill Information Centre on 1800 625 373 for recommendations.
